Chennai airport transfers, and the road decision that sets the time
Chennai International is close to the city by South Indian standards — nothing like Bangalore’s 34 km haul — which makes the fare modest and the timing the thing that actually matters.
The variable is which road you are travelling to or from. The airport sits on the south-west side of the city, near the GST Road corridor, and that has consequences:
- To Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Sriperumbudur or Guindy — you are already on the right side of the city. These are the quick runs.
- To the OMR IT corridor, Adyar or the ECR side — you cross the city, and the time depends entirely on the hour.
- To north Chennai or the port area — allow considerably more time than the distance suggests.
A driver who knows this quotes you a departure time. One who does not quotes you the distance and leaves you to find out.
The IT corridor pattern
A large share of our Chennai airport work is early-morning pickups from OMR — Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur, Siruseri — and from the Sriperumbudur industrial belt on the other side of town. Both are far enough out that the car is positioned the night before for anything before 6am. We do not dispatch a car across Chennai at 4:30am and hope.
Luggage, stated honestly
The reason to book an Ertiga for an airport run is the boot, so here is the truth about it. Four or five passengers with the third row folded: four or five large suitcases, comfortably. Six passengers with all rows up: cabin bags only.
Six people and six large cases do not fit in this car. We would rather tell you at the point of booking than have you standing at the terminal repacking.
Monsoon
Between roughly October and December the north-east monsoon can make specific low-lying stretches and subways impassable, and the route to the airport changes accordingly. It occasionally adds distance and time. We tell you before the trip.

Which terminal does the driver come to at MAA?
Whichever your flight uses — tell us the flight number and the driver tracks it. Chennai's domestic and international terminals are adjacent but the pickup areas are not the same place, and arriving at the wrong one costs fifteen minutes you do not have.
Is an Ertiga enough for a family of five with checked bags to the airport?
Yes, comfortably. Fold the third row and the boot takes four or five large suitcases. This is the most common reason people book an MPV rather than a sedan for a Chennai airport run, and it is the configuration the car is best at.
What about six passengers and six suitcases?
That does not fit, and we will say so when you book rather than at the terminal. With all six seats occupied you have only the space behind the third row — cabin bags, not large cases. For six passengers with full luggage we will put you in a bigger SARA CAB vehicle.
How early should the car arrive for an international departure?
Work back from your check-in and add the road, not the other way round. From most of the city that means leaving three to three and a half hours ahead; from OMR or Sriperumbudur, more. Your driver will give you a departure time for your part of the city.
Will the driver wait if my flight lands late?
We track the flight and start the 30 minutes of free waiting from actual landing rather than the scheduled arrival — so a delayed flight does not eat into it. Beyond 30 minutes, waiting is charged by the hour at the rate quoted when you book.
