Outstation from Chennai — and the one journey that dominates
Chennai’s outstation demand is not evenly spread. One route accounts for a remarkable share of it: Chennai to Tirupati, which is among the highest-frequency paid car journeys anywhere in South India.
It also happens to be close to an ideal Ertiga trip. Five or six people, luggage, mostly flat highway, and a duration the third row handles without complaint.
The pilgrimage pattern
Tirupati bookings follow a shape that has nothing to do with how a cab-booking app thinks about journeys:
- Depart overnight or before dawn, so you reach the hills ahead of the queues
- The darshan slot sets the departure time, not the drive time
- An interstate permit applies — Tirupati is in Andhra Pradesh
- Many groups want the car and driver to wait and bring them back, which is a round trip with a wait, not two drops
Any operator can drive you there. The value is in a driver who has done the run enough times to know when to leave for your particular slot.
Where else Chennai goes
Beyond Tirupati, the regular outstation work splits between Tamil Nadu temple towns and the long southern runs — Madurai, Trichy, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari — and the Bangalore corridor, which is a different kind of journey: fast highway, heavy traffic at both ends, and a Karnataka permit.
How the fare is built
Three parts, and we itemise all of them:
- Distance — per kilometre, on the higher of your actual distance and the daily minimum
- Driver bata — one per day, plus a night halt allowance if the driver stays over
- At actuals — toll, parking, and the interstate permit where the route crosses a border, with receipts
Nothing appears at drop-off that was not in the quote, except the pass-through costs — and those come with receipts.

Outstation in Chennai — FAQs
What time should we leave Chennai for a Tirupati darshan?
Overnight or very early morning is what almost everyone books, so that you are at the hills before the queues build. The exact departure depends on your darshan slot, and your driver will set it from that rather than from a generic drive time.
Do we need a permit to drive from Chennai to Tirupati?
Yes — Tirupati is in Andhra Pradesh, so an interstate permit applies. It is charged at actuals and we tell you the amount before you travel. We hold Andhra Pradesh permits already, so it does not delay anything.
Is a round trip or two one-way drops cheaper for a Tirupati trip?
If you are returning the same day or the next, a round trip is almost always cheaper — you are not paying two separate minimums. If you are staying on and coming back another way, take the one-way. Tell us the whole plan and we will price both and tell you which is less.
How does the minimum kilometre rule work on a two-day trip?
The daily minimum applies per day of the trip. On a two-day booking you are charged for two days' minimum or your actual distance, whichever is higher — so a short two-day trip is billed at the minimum, and a long one is billed for what you drove.
Can the car and driver stay with us overnight at the destination?
Yes, that is how a multi-day outstation booking works. A night halt allowance applies for the driver's stay, charged per night and shown as its own line rather than hidden in the per-km rate.
