How that fare is built
| Item | One way | Round trip |
|---|---|---|
| Chargeable distance | 365 km | 730 km |
| Rate per km | ₹20 | ₹19 |
| Distance cost | ₹7,300 | ₹13,870 |
| Driver bata | ₹400 | ₹500 |
| Toll and parking | At actuals, with receipts — quoted on the call | |
| Interstate permit | Required, Karnataka to Tamil Nadu — at actuals. We already hold it. | |

| GST at 5% | ₹385 | ₹719 |
| Total, from | ₹8,085 | ₹15,089 |
One way is charged for your direction plus the minimum distance. A round trip charges both legs with the daily minimum applied — which is why the one-way total is lower even at a higher per-km rate. Prefer a single agreed figure with toll and permit folded in? Ask for an all-inclusive quote.
Usually a staging post
Coimbatore is a substantial city with real industry and its own reasons to visit, and yet most people we drive on this route are not stopping there. They are heading for the hills.
Coimbatore is where the plains end. Ooty, Valparai, Kodaikanal, and across the Palakkad Gap Munnar and Kochi — all of them start from here. So the most useful question we can ask when you book is not “where in Coimbatore” but “where after Coimbatore”, because the answer changes what we recommend.
If the hills are the destination, we may suggest driving straight through and sleeping at the top rather than breaking in the city. Six hours plus a ghat climb in one day is a lot; six hours plus a night in Coimbatore and a fresh climb the next morning is usually the better trip. That is a conversation worth having before the booking rather than after.
Which road
Two options, as on the reverse journey. The Salem highway is faster, dull and available overnight. The Sathyamangalam forest route is shorter, considerably better to drive, slower, and closed to through traffic overnight.
For business travel, the overnight highway run is usually right — you arrive with a working day intact. For a holiday, take the forest and leave early.
Getting out of Bangalore is the variable at this end, as it is on every road heading south from that city. Leaving before the morning build-up makes a real difference to the total.
The state line
Karnataka into Tamil Nadu, so an interstate permit applies — quoted before you travel rather than added at the end.
If you are stopping in Coimbatore
It is an industrial city — textiles, engineering, and a great deal of business travel. The Isha Yoga Center and Adiyogi on the Velliangiri foothills draw steady visitors and sit outside the city rather than in it. Marudhamalai and Perur temples are worth an afternoon. The airport is unusually close to the centre, which after Bangalore’s thirty-four kilometre haul is a pleasant surprise.
Why this route suits an Ertiga
Six hours of highway, and often a ghat climb the following day. For four or five people with luggage for a hill holiday this is comfortable and economical over the distance. For six adults, particularly if a climb follows, we would size up — and we would rather say that at booking than have the third row spoil the second day of your trip as well as the first.
Still coming to this page: named toll plazas and amounts, named break stops, interstate permit amount. Those come from our own drivers rather than from a map, and we would rather leave them off than print a figure we have not checked. Ask on the call and we will tell you the toll for this route.
All bookings include a professional driver. We do not offer self-drive rentals.
Booking this route
We drive Coimbatore to Bangalore as well, at the same rate — the fare depends on the distance and the direction of travel, not on which end you start from. There is one page for both directions rather than two pages saying the same thing.

Bangalore to Coimbatore — FAQs
Are we better off going straight through to the hills?
Often yes. A large share of these bookings are really heading for Ooty, Valparai, Munnar or Kochi, and Coimbatore is just where the plains end. If that is your plan, say so — we may recommend driving straight through rather than stopping, which changes the shape of the day.
Is a permit needed?
Yes. You cross from Karnataka into Tamil Nadu, so an interstate permit applies, charged at actuals and quoted before you travel.
Should we travel overnight?
It works well on the Salem highway and is common for business travel — you arrive in the morning with a working day intact. The alternative forest route through Sathyamangalam is closed to through traffic overnight, so an overnight run means taking the highway.
How long does it take?
About six hours via Salem. Getting out of Bangalore is the unpredictable part, as on every road heading south from that city.
Is a one-way drop cheaper?
Substantially at this distance. Most people are continuing into the hills or flying out of Coimbatore, so the drop is nearly always right.
