What is around Pollachi
Aliyar reservoir is a short way on, at the foot of the Anamalais, and it is the natural pause before the Valparai climb — a large calm sheet of water with the hills rising behind it. There is a park and a viewpoint.
Monkey Falls is on the Valparai road, a roadside cascade that is popular and crowded in season and dry outside it.
The Anamalai Tiger Reserve boundary begins here, which is what makes the drive beyond Pollachi worth taking slowly.
Masaniamman temple in the town draws steady local pilgrimage, and the town’s markets — coconut, jaggery, vegetables — are the real thing rather than a display.
The Valparai connection
If Valparai is where you are actually going, Pollachi is where the easy part ends. Beyond Aliyar the road turns up through a dense sequence of tight hairpins into the tea country, and it takes far longer than the distance suggests.
